RAE Results 2008:
Business School Rankings
Following the publication of the results from the Research Assessment Exercise 2008, a number of rankings of Business Schools in the United Kingdom have been created using the RAE results based upon the grade point average, or research power (the grade point average multiplied by the number of FTE staff submitted), or the percentage of research classified as 4*. Not surprisingly, these different methods yield different rankings. Rather than arguing about the validity of the different rankings, I propose a ranking based upon the 'average' of all three methods. The 'Collie Index' is given by the product of the grade point average, research power and the percentage of research classified as 4*. This index gives the following ranking for the top ten Business Schools in the United Kingdom:
